VETIVER GRASS
An affordable, straightforward, and eco-friendly remedy for erosion prevention, ground stability, managing rainwater flow, sediment capture, and toxin filtration.
A NATURAL EROSION SYSTEM
Vetiver grass stands out among plant species due to its remarkable root system, which grows vertically straight down to depths of up to 6 metres. Vetiver Grass is an unparalleled tool for land rehabilitation, as its roots form a robust underground barrier, preventing soil erosion and landslides.
Its ability to penetrate deep into the soil also makes it an ideal choice for soil conservation efforts, particularly as this plant is infertile and will only grow where man has planted it.
The grass grows to between 1.5 and 2 metres high and when planted in rows the dense foliage acts as an excellent sediment catcher, reducing and conserving rain water runoff.
BENEFITS OF VETIVER GRASS
Vetiver grass helps prevent erosion, conserve water, stabilise structures, improve soil, reduce pollution, sequester carbon, support biodiversity, mitigate disasters, benefit livestock, and enhance landscapes.
NONINVASIVE
Vetiver's deep vertical roots create a robust barrier without encroaching on neighboring plants or seeking water sources, ensuring controlled growth.
VERSATILE
Vetiver serves multiple purposes, acting as mulch to repel pests, retain moisture, and absorb carbon, promoting environmental sustainability.
ADAPTABLE
Vetiver exhibits extreme resilience, enduring temperatures from -10 to 50 degrees celsius, surviving droughts, floods, and thriving in diverse soil types and pH levels.
DURABLE
Vetiver boasts exceptional longevity, with a lifespan exceeding 200 years, while requiring minimal maintenance due to its resistance to common pests and diseases.
WHAT WE OFFER
PB3 PLANTS
Our vetiver plants are grown in PB3 bags and are only distributed once they are well established.
Before planting, the base of the plant need to be trimmed to remove any root matting, allowing the roots to grow downward rather than circling near the soil surface.
T28 PLANTS
Grown in T28 forestry trays, these plants are a cost effective option and are smaller than our PB3 plants. Despite their size, they will establish well once planted.
The plants are removed from the trays with the root matting precut, meaning they are ready to go straight into the ground.
